Waheguru jee ka khalsa Waheguru jee kee fateh

Thank you all for your positive feedback on our first ever issue of Khabraan. We will continue to make it better and hope you will stay better informed and more participative in the activities of your SEWA Gurdwara.

For this month of Vaisakhi, Aap Sabh nu Lakh Lakh Vadhai Hovey Jee.

Vaisakhi Festival is celebrated as the Sikh New Year and the founding of the Khalsa Panth. Baisakhi’s origin is traced from the celebrations of 1699 organized by the Tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh ji to form Khalsa Panth - Brotherhood of Saint Soldiers to fight against tyranny and oppression. Here the first Khalsas and Guru Gobind Singh himself went through the initiation ceremony and took the same oath of loyalty as was expected of the foot soldiers.
Vaisakhi is an important festival throughout India -  celebrated by the farmers rejoicing with the bright colors of Spring,  'Rongali Bihu' in Assam, 'Naba Barsha' in Bengal, ‘Puthandu’ in Tamil Nadu, 'Pooram Vishu' in Kerala and ‘Vaishakha’ in the state of Bihar.
In Guru Granth Sahib Ji,
BARAMAHA MAJH MAHALLA–5:

This life can only be like the month of Vaisakh if it meets with the saint Lord

This month we are blessed to be able to do the ground breaking for our new kitchen construction. We are sure you will open your hearts and wallets to make this a successful ‘no debt’ project. Please let us all contribute, no amount is too small (Boond, Boond say Ghat Bharre).

Thank you also for your participating in the Relay for Life on April 23-24. This is an important activity which SEWA has been supporting for 10 years.

Let's all count our blessings, be thankful to Waheguru-jee, and keep giving in service of humanity.

Guru Fateh,

Jasbir Kaur

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4002/4546715071_75cf3ffd00_m.jpgWith Guru's infinite blessings and grace we celebrated Vaisakhi & Khalsa Sirjana Diwas with great enthusiasm and devotion. It started with Nishan Sahib sewa on Sunday, 11th April 2010 followed by special deewan on Vaisakhi day - Wednesday, 14th April 2010. We had Akhand paath from 16th - 18th April 2010 where samooh sangat along with the raagi jatha participated in reciting Guru Granth Sahib jee Maharaj. On 18th April we had a special keertan deewan after paath bhog, followed by the ground breaking of the new gurdwara kitchen. We sincerely hope and pray that the new kitchen will bring much needed relief in langar preparation during our deewans.

Upcoming Event(s)
After a grand success of the SOJH workshop in 2009, we are ready again to organize this event with Guru's Grace in September 2010, on Guru Granth Sahib jee's first prakash diwas. This workshop to help us (especially the younger of us) to interact with Bani. The overall structure of the event will remain the same with an exciting after event for felicitation of the participants. Stay tuned for more details.

Volunteerism

(Fruitful is service to the True Guru, if one does so with a sincere mind.)

Sewa with Guru’s grace, fills the ‘space’ with Love, selflessness and compassion in the empty space created by GIVING. This is a perfect recipe for happiness and realization of self. Moreover sewa can be performed at any age and in any form.

There are lot of avenues to do sewa such as Langar, Deewan, Paath, Ardaas, Prakash, Sukhaasaan, cleaning, social causes etc. We hope that Guru is kind enough to inspire all of us for this sewa. We kindly request samooh sangat members to contribute in any form or manner they see fit. We welcome any suggestion, thought or volunteerism. Please do not hesitate to contact any of the SEWADAARs if you wish to part of/lead any activity.

Building

http://www.sewageorgia.org/img/Gurdwara.jpgThe Building Committee sewadars for 2010 are, Jagjeet Singh Sidhu, Gurvinder Singh Rekhi, Yuvraj Singh Chahal, Amarjit Singh Duggal

Building committee protects and maintains SEWA’s Real Estate assets, and manages the construction of any new building additions. With sangat's help we keep up with the  routine maintenance. Nanik Chugani is our landscaping lead, and I am sure you will agree that he does an excellent job of keeping the bushes and flowers looking beautiful year round. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer.

After many months of planning the addition of a new state of the art commercial kitchen, with Guru's grace and sangat's co-operation we had a http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2711/4533632292_7de766d619.jpgGround Breaking ceremony on April 18, 2010 during Vaisakhi celebrations at the SEWA Gurdwara Sahib. This was the result of multiple interactions with the Architect, Engineers & City of Roswell. After due diligence and reviewing competitive bids of contractors’ proposals, your Board approved the bid submitted by Ganaway Contracting. Kitchen construction is scheduled to start 1st week of May and with Guru's grace we should have Certificate of Occupancy by early July 2010.

Sangat is requested to donate generously towards the project. If you wish to donate online (via paypal & other credit cards) please visit here for further details. In addition, if sangat would like to make a donation towards a specific kitchen appliance, please ask any of the committee members for a list of appliances and other items that are needed in the kitchen.
